Nebraska authorities have accused a man of being inattentive after his 3-year-old stepson nearly drowned at a pond near North Platte.
Trevor Perry was arrested today and faces a felony charge of child abuse.
Officials report that Perry didn't watch the child for an extended period of time. During this time the boy became submerged underwater about 15 feet from the shoreline.
Lincoln County authorities say the boy, Landon Schroeder, was unresponsive. Despite his stepson's condition Perry did not call for help. According to authorities he packed up his gear and drove the boy home.
After the boy's mother rushed him to the hospital, Landon was life-flighted to a Denver hospital.
The boy is recovering and is off life support.
