44 yrs. After Conviction Overturned, 81 y/o Will be Compensated
After spending 14 years in a Nebraskaprison for a murder he did not commit, an 81-year-old is on track to finallyreceive compensation for his time in lock-up.
Darrel Parker was wrongfully convictedin the 1955 murder of his wife in their Lincoln home. A federal appeals court overturnedhis conviction in 1969, saying his confession was coerced.
Now, over 40 years after his freedomwas restored, it appears a settlement is imminent.
Parker is due to receive $500,000 fromthe state for his time served wrongfully behind bars.
Lawmakers gave first-round approval onFriday to a payout for Parker.
