According to AAA, every year there are hundreds of cyclists killed on roadways across the United States. As a way to reduce these fatalities, AAA and the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation are conducting free bicycle helmet fitting events on May 7.
AAA says helmets are the best way to prevent serious head trauma when an accident occurs while riding a bike. So they will be fitting free bike helmets on children ages 5-14 on May 7, from 6-8 p.m., while supplies last.
There will be three AAA sites open for the fittings:
- North Platte, 410 E. Leota St. Suite 3
- Kearney, 203 W. 22 St.
- Grand Island, 3359 W. Capital Ave.
Children must attend with their parent or guardian to be properly fitted. There will also be safety literature and refreshments available at the events. Children will also be asked to sign a bicycle riders pledge promising that they will wear their helmet every time they ride.
Helmetsare available in popular designs and colors while supplies last.
