Airport Issue Continues to be a Main Focus for Kearney Officials

The status of the Kearney Regional Airport was a hot topic Wednesday during the Kearney Chamber's monthly Community Connections meeting.

Officials said they are continuing to negotiate with other bidders as pilot shortages due to new regulation restrictions continue to be an issue for Great Lakes Airlines.

Terms of the current negotiations or who they are taking place with are not being disclosed. But, city officials do say the issue will continue to be at the top of the list until it's resolved.

"The biggest thing i have on my agenda is getting reliable air service into Kearney. Reliable air service is the continuation of growth of Kearney and without it, well I don't even want to think about it," said council member Bob Lammers.

The city continues to work with Great Lakes on a new bid. However nothing has been decided and the tables are still open for discussion.
