Amazon is paying their workers thousandsto quit but they hope their employees don't take the offer.
The online retailer said they areoffering some employees up to $5,000 to hand in their notice. The offer startsat $2,000 and goes up to $3,000 the year after that. The payoff rises each yearuntil it hits $5,000.
The offer is for warehouse workersonly, the people who pack and ship customer orders and it comes at a time when Amazonis actually building more warehouses and hiring workers.
The company doesn't actually wanttheir employees to quit, just the opposite.
The offer is made under the headline,"please don't take this offer" as a way for Amazon to hang on to theirhappy workers.
In a letter to shareholders, CEO JeffBezos said, "the goal is to encourage folks to take a moment and thinkabout what they really want. In the long-run, and employees staying somewherethey don't want to be isn't healthy for the company."
It's the old thinking that a happyworker is a more productive worker.
