Hunger is a big problem across the nation, including right here in Nebraska. According to Feeding America, nearly 14 percent of households in Nebraska face food insecurity.

That is why the America's Farmers Food Drive is working to fill the shelves of food banks across the state to provide for some of the families facing food insecurity.

The fifth annualAmerica's Farmers Food Drive, sponsored by Monsanto in conjunction with FarmProgress and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, will take place at HuskerHarvest Days on Sept. 10-12 in Grand Island, Neb.

All FFA chapters and 4-H clubs in Nebraska are invited toparticipate in the America's Farmers Food Drive. FFA and 4-H students whodonate food will receive free entry to Husker Harvest Days. Additionally, thetop three FFA chapters and top three 4-H clubs that bring in donations of morethan 100 pounds of food will each be awarded $250.

Monsanto will also be donating $1 to the Heartland United Way for every pound of food collected, up to $10,000. HGBF will do the same, but with proceeds benefiting Feeding America.

"U.S. farmersare helping to feed the world, yet as many as 50 million Americans struggle tomeet their daily food needs," said Howard G. Buffett, HGBF president. "TheAmerica's Farmers Food Drive is an opportunity for farmers, neighbors and youngpeople to support the food needs of people in their own communities."

Food can be donated at any time during the three day farm show.
