Andrea Hay

Andrea Hay is the Assistant News Director of NTV News and anchors two evening shows: Good Evening Nebraska at 6:30pm (ABC) and KFXL Nightly at 9pm (on FOX, for NTV's sister station). Joining the NTV News team in 2010, she was formerly a nightside reporter and NTV News weekend anchor.

Andrea's passion for investigative journalism gave her NTV the lead on several tragic headlines in her first years reporting in Central Nebraska. Andrea was the first at the scene of the death of 14-year-old Kailee Clapp of McCook. She later, got exclusive interviews inside the home of her convicted murderer, Stathis Kirkpatrick -- hearing from family members and girlfriend about his documented psychological issues. And in one of the most-watched stories of 2011, Andrea covered the court hearings for the three people convicted for the abuse and death of 4-year-old Landon Payne.

"Covering sudden deaths, tragedies, abuse or disasters -- it can be really tough. You want to stay strong, fair and professional, but also consider every life affected. I've found that reporting the philanthropic end-result of tragedy can often be inspiring and help bring peace to victims."

Andrea has a master's degree in journalism from New York University and studied under award-winning New York Times journalists and lawyers, as well as social-media experts and network news anchors. Working at the United Nations, Andrea interned CNN International. "It was a rare look into the busy lives of world leaders and a fantastic experience," she says: Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, ambassadors and the Clintons -- were a few big names frequently covered at the UN during that time. Her best memory was pulling long days and nights for CNN's coverage of the 2009 General Assembly.

Prior-to, Andrea had internships with Inside Edition in New York and Fox 6 News in Milwaukee, Wis. while studying at Marian University. There she was co-editor of her college newspaper with another NTV face, Nina Harrelson; and also Founding President of the University Communication Society. These achievements bought her the Marian University Voice Award upon graduating in 2008. In 2013, she was featured in the annual Marian Magazine to talk about her experience post-graduation.

Andrea is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the communication department.
