Loner No More -- Dog is 'Chick Magnet'
A loner no more, local dog's fame finds him in the arms of a woman who flew cross country to snuggle up to this beefy boy.
Known as the "Swift" dog because he lived on his own near Grand Island's JPS Swift packing plant, Angus T. Loner found national fame after his story aired on Animal Planet.
With time off from a major airline, a Connecticut woman used her flight benefits to travel cross country to meet this gentle giant.
"Angus, he's the man, he's a chick magnet. Look at him, he's irresistible," Ruby Laughter said.
Ruby heard Angus had a Facebook page and before long even ordered a sweatshirt with his picture on it.
So was it worth coming all the way from Norwalk, Connecticut?
Ruby says Angus was bigger and more lovable than she imagined.
She was more than happy to snuggle with him on a cold day, posing for pictures taken at the Central Nebraska Humane Society.
Executive Director Laurie Dethloff recounted how Angus live for years around the Swift plant, eating burgers brought by plant employees.
No one could get close to him, but a family left a barn door open, giving him a place to get out of the elements. Local media attention then caught the eye of Dogs 101, a show on Animal Planet.
