Workers have laid the foundation for another set of bricks that have found their way into town.

New temporary construction at Kearney's Great Platte River Archway is building up for a surprise permanent fixture.

Hundreds of unearthed original bricks from Lincoln Highway in Canton, Ohio will be placed here next week, just in time for the national Lincoln Highway Centennial Celebration on July 1.

Officials say it's great to have something so rare be a part of local history.

"It's perfect timing to be able to bring back some bricks from the Lincoln Highway, put them back down, create a piece of road so everyone can remember what the Lincoln Highway was like," said Nebraska Centennial Director Ronnie O'Brien. "See a piece of that, and have it right here at the Archway where people will be able to enjoy it for years and years."

The bricks will be set the week of June 24, with a dedication ceremony on occurring on July 1.
