Art Exhibit Helps Students Promote Creativity

Hastings Central Community College Media Arts students got an opportunity to learn how to promote themselves and their creativity.

Photography, illustration, and design techniques are presented by students in the 'Exhibition Preparation' class. This class focuses on self promotion of their art ranging from brochure design to logo creation, and framing of their work.

Instructors say it's important for students to get the whole experience.

"If students want to eventually run their own business then they need to know how to promote themselves, how to get their name in the community so they can build their business and be recognized," said Media Arts instructor Carole Meyer.

"It's really nice to see all the people come and enjoy the show. We have several different students who do so much different work and have different talents," said Media Arts student Michael Beahm. "It's just really exciting to see everyone be able to really appreciate the things that we do and the time we spend on it."

The Media Arts photography and art show, 'Layers' will be available for public viewing for the next month in the Phelps building on campus.

REPORTER'S NOTES: The exhibit will be available for viewing Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through March.
