Authorities with the Burwell Police Department, Garfield County Sheriff's Office and Nebraska State Patrol continue to work on identifying the person who sent a threatening letter to the city of Burwell last week.
Authorities say the letter assigned more than a dozen people to a so-called "hit list", though the letter did not go so far as to say exactly what that meant. The names in the letter includes school administrators, faculty members and students at Burwell Jr./Sr. High School.
Officers spent time at the school Thursday and Friday, and again on Monday to provide increased security. Officials say they anticipate to remain present at the school until the matter is resolved.
No suspect has been named or charges filed in this matter. Authorities are asking community members to be extra watchful and report any unusual or suspicious activity.
