Backup Cameras Required For New Cars After NHTSA Ruling
New vehicles will soon have to comewith a new safety feature.
Backup cameras, already installed in many newvehicle models, will be a requirement after a Monday ruling by the National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration.
The ruling will apply to all newvehicles under 10,000 pounds and will take effect May 1, 2018. The backup camera has to show anarea of 10 feet by 20 feet directly behind the vehicle.
The NHTSAexpects the technology will reduce back-over crashes. This type of accidentcauses about 210 deaths and 15,000 injuries each year.
