A Beatrice man already convicted of raping and assaulting a 29-year-old woman is in court facing federal child pornography charges.

Joseph Buttercase, 31, pleaded not guilty in federal court last Thursday to charges of enticing a person younger than 18 to engage in sexually explicit conduct and of transporting child pornography across state lines.

If convicted, Buttercase could face up to life in prison for manufacturing child pornography as well as additional time for the transportation and possession of child pornography.

His pretrial hearing is set for Feb. 12 in Omaha.

Buttercase is currently serving 26 to 41 years in a Nebraska state prison for his previous rape conviction.
