Ben Nelson and Two Others Form Govt. and Public Affairs Firm
Omaha – Public and private sector executives Tim Becker, Barry Rubin, and former Nebraska U.S. Senator and Governor Ben Nelson have formed the government and public affairs firm, Heartland Strategy Group, LLC.
The firm will serve corporate and business clients, advocacy groups, trade associations, and not-for-profit groups in providing business development, public policy advocacy, government relations, strategic communications, public affairs, and issue management services.
Heartland Strategy Group brings a record of experience and success to assist local, regional, national and international companies, trade associations, not-for-profit organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Tim Becker has nearly three decades of public policy experience and has served in executive management positions at the federal, state, and local levels of both legislative and executive branches of government.
Most recently, Becker served as Nelson's Chief of Staff in the United States Senate. He was also Chief of Staff in the Governor's Office for five of Nelson's eight years as Governor. He previously served as Deputy Director of the Governor's Policy Research Office and as a Legislative Aide in the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature.
Barry Rubin brings two decades of experience in both the private and public sector leadership roles, including managing political campaigns, serving as a state party executive director, state government official, and public affairs consultant to Fortune 500 companies.
Rubin was last involved with the pro-pipeline group, Nebraskan's for Jobs and Energy Independence. He was also the head of the Democratic Party some time ago.
In 2008 he founded Red State Strategies, LLC, specializing in public affairs, political and issue campaign management. Rubin has expertise in managing ballot initiatives, issue campaigns, political races and private sector business development.
Ben Nelson, a former U.S. Senator and Governor from Nebraska, built a reputation as a consensus builder and a leader in his fields of expertise: military and veterans issues, healthcare, financial services and agriculture.
Nelson, along with Rubin and Becker, is a founding partner of Heartland Strategy Group. He will primarily serve in an advisory role devoting most of his time to his new position as CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC.)
"We are going to build a firm that helps you build a business," Nelson said.
"We start the conversation," said Rubin. "Information is key to any venture. We help clients gather and assess information and then transform it into actions that effectively communicates and promotes their agenda."
Becker said, "Stated simply, our clients set the goals and we help them achieve them."
