Nebraska's annual brain injury conference will be held April4-5 in Kearney, offering information to assist individuals with brain injuriesand their families.
The Nebraska Brain Injury Advisory Council will cosponsorthe conference as well as a free March 27 national webinar on technology thatcould benefit individuals with brain injuries.
The two events will be held in recognition of Brain InjuryAwareness Month.
The 7th Annual Brain Injury Conference will offersessions to help individuals and their families address adjustment, coping,acceptance and expressing themselves through journaling. Sessions forprofessionals will explore substance abuse, behavioral changes and bridging thegap between concussion and the classroom.
Registration for the conference closes March 27, 2013.
Several organizations are cosponsoring the March 27 webinar,A Brain in the Palm of Your Hand: Handheld Devices as Cognitive Aids forVeterans. The free webinar will be presented by Tony Gentry, anassociate professor in the Occupational Therapy Department, VirginiaCommonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
The webinar will examine current devices, such as smartphones, PDA's and tablet computers as well as apps for task organization,cueing, way-finding, behavioral management and vocational support forveterans.
In addition to the Nebraska Brain Injury Advisory Council,the webinar cosponsors are Nebraska Assistive Technology Partnership, NebraskaVeterans Administration's Vocational Rehabilitation Program and theRehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North AmericaCatalyst Project.
