The Broken Bow Police Department responded to a bomb threat at Dollar General this afternoon.

Authorities answered the 911 call around 12:15 on Friday.

According to police, an employee at the local store received a call from someone demanding they load $500 onto a prepaid card.

During the conversation, the caller claimed they were watching the store and could cause harm to the store and its employees.

Police cleared the store and area. They then contacted the Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad.

The area was deemed safe and reopened for business around 2 p.m.

Authorities say similar scams have been reported recently in O'Neill, Ainsworth, Fullerton and Omaha.
