Hastings College adding accolades and accomplishments to their coaching staff with the addition of Jon Perone.
After seven seasons as Head Coach of the Benson (Omaha, Neb.) High School’s girls basketball program, Perone is taking his game to the next level, announced Perone as the program’s new assistant coach.
“Coach Perone has been diligent in building Benson High’s girls basketball into a championship level program,” said Hofstetter, whose team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2014. “His ability to teach the game, his desire to perfect his craft, and his competitive drive are all attributes that will be extremely valuable to our program moving forward. Having coached the Pinnacle Bank AAU team with Jon last summer, I am already familiar with and aware of his strengths and am confident he will hit the ground running. I am absolutely thrilled to have him join our staff.”
While leading the Benson Bunnies, Perone guided the team to the 2014 Class A State Championship – its first ever. The Bunnies rode a 19 game winning streak to finish an impressive season with a 26-2 overall record. The Bunnies also earned a state tournament berth in 2013.
Under Perone’s tutelage, six Bunnies have earned all-metro honors and 13 players have continued their playing careers at the collegiate level. One of the many players he has mentored is three-time super state selection and 2014 All-Metro player of the year, Kiana Ibis.
Additionally, Perone has been named Boys and Girls Club Coach of the Year the past three years in a row, Omaha Metro Coach of the Year twice and Huskerland Prep Coach of the Year.
Perone replacing Patrick Harrison, who stepped away from the Broncos after one season for an assistant position at North Dakota State.
