Bruning Remains in Hospital Following Surgery for Colon Cancer

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning has successfully undergone surgery to remove part of his colon and surrounding lymph nodes, according to a spokeswoman.

Bruning announced Wednesday that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer, but he says he believes the cancer was caught early and is optimistic that Thursday's surgery would remove the cancer.

Bruning's office said late Thursday that doctors will not know whether the disease had spread until test results come back next week. Bruning remains hospitalized in Lincoln.

Bruning responded to the many well wishes he has received on Twitter Friday. He tweeted, "I want to extend my deep appreciation for the prayers and support I've received this week. I'm truly #blessed."
