Bull Sale Offers Buying Options For Cattle Producers
A unique consignment sale lets area cattle producers bring some of their finest stock, showcasing the different available varieties of livestock in south-central Nebraska.
Angus, Hereford, Limousine were just some of the different breeds of bulls at the 7th annual consignment sale in Red Cloud.
Ranchers say bull sales are pretty high and expect the cattle industry to improve, especially after numbers dropped due to the drought. But they add that having this sale in town also educates people driving through the area.
"Any livestock is important to small communities in Nebraska. We depend on these small communities and the communities depend on livestock being here," said South Central Cattleman's Association president Jamie Watts. "The farmer rancher isn't here, the community is going to struggle, so importance of livestock being in community is number one thing."
This sale is strategically done two weeks prior to Cattleman's Classic so producers can highlight their livestock and gain perspective buyers.
The South Central Cattleman's Association serves producers in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties.
