Changes to School Funding System Causing Division
Proposed changes to Nebraska's school funding formula, LB 407, is creating a division with lawmakers in Lincoln.
Lawmakers representing urban areas said more state dollars should be directed to districts with higher property tax levies. Their rural counterparts argue education costs are higher due to having better salaries for teachers and greater travel distances to schools.
Schools get money through local taxes and rely on additional funding from the state to fill in the gaps.
