Studentat a northern Colorado high school were faced with a disturbing scene after a16-year-old student set himself on fire.
Apolice investigator described what happened.
CheriSpottke of the Westminster, Colo. Police said "between 7:00 and 7:30 thismorning, a male student entered Standley Lake High School cafeteria. Heproceeded to light himself on fire."
Thefire did not spread to other areas of the building and was put out a shortwhile later.
"Itwas contained to the cafeteria area," said Spottke. "Two cafeteria workers wereable to get a fire extinguisher and extinguish the fire fairly quickly."
Thestudent suffered burns on more than 80 percent of his body and is in criticalcondition. A school employee also suffered minor injuries trying to grab a fireextinguisher out of its glass container.
Local news station KUSA labeledthe incident a suicide attempt and reported the student left a suicide note onsocial media.
