Congressman Smith Assigned to Health and Trade Subcommittees


Congressman Adrian Smith has been assigned to both the Health and Trade subcommittees of the Ways and Means House Committee.

As part of the Trade Subcommittee, Smith will face issues related to trade agreements; budget authorizations for several departments; and special trade-related problems involving market access,export policy and promotion, and bilateral trade relations including trade withdeveloping nations.

The Subcommittee on Health will have Smith overseeing taxesand payments (from any source) relating to Medicare and all other health careand health delivery systems except Medicaid.

"These subcommittees offer a unique opportunity torepresent the interests of the Third District during the 113th Congress as theU.S. negotiates new trade agreements around the world, and many of the mostburdensome provisions of the 2010 health care law begin to takeeffect," said Smith. "I also look forward to addressing comprehensive tax reformwith the full committee to simplify the tax code for all Americans andencourage economic growth."

Smith has served on the Ways and Means Committee since January2011.
