The contract between Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska and UniNet, which represents CHI Health facilities across Nebraska, has expired without a new agreement, and officials say no negotiations have been scheduled.

Starting Monday people who visit doctors or hospitals in Nebraska associated with the CHI Health network -- including CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island and CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney -- will have to pay more if they have insurance from Blue Cross.

Blue Cross says CHI Health hospitals and doctors in Omaha routinely charges 10 to 30 percent more than other Omaha hospitals. CHI Health says those figures are misleading and it believes its total cost of treatment is lower, even if certain services cost more. For more information from Blue Cross Blue Shield, click here.

BCBSNE senior vice president Lee Handke had previously stated that negotiations with CHI Health will continue after Sept. 1.
