Convicted Killer to Appear in Court Monday to Ask for New Trial

John Oldson

Convicted killer John Oldson will appear in a Howard County courtroom Monday to find out if a judge will grant his request for a new trial.

A jury convicted Oldson, 47, of Randolph, Missouri, of second–degree murder in February for abducting 30–year–old Cathy Beard from an Ord tavern back in 1989, killing her and dumping her body in a field outside of town.

Her remains were discovered three years later.

Defense attorneys are fighting to overturn Oldson's conviction, saying that since the trial they've discovered new evidence that they believe will exonerate him.

If Oldson's request for a new trial is denied Monday, he will be sentenced on June 3.
