Cupcake Lovers Flock to Funk for Annual Festival

It's a day of "sweet indulgence", as a local community celebrates the art of the cupcake.

One small Nebraska community practically doubled in size over the weekend as people flocked to the town of Funk to indulge for a day at their third annual cupcake festival.

This event gave area bakers an opportunity to display their tastiest treats; all for the chance to win the top prize and more importantly, boost the community.

"Cupcakes are a big thing right now," shared festival chair Mona Peterson. "We hope they stay a big thing for a long time, but I think, like I said before, the most important thing is it's a community event, something different people can turn out for."

Sunday's festival also served as a fundraiser for the Funk High School Community Center and the Phelps County Ministerial Association.
