Dawson County Historical Museum

There's the saying that you have to learn from the past to prepare for the future.
One musuem is putting those words into practice.
The Dawson County Historical Musuem has been preserving history since the 1970s.
There was a big push to preserve artifacts and Dawson County has kept up with that mission.
The musuem has everything from the prehistoric to modern times. There's Big Al, the Columbian mammoth to a McCabe airplane to family history artifacts.
There's just one problem...they're running out of room. So they've raised $1.5 million for an expansion project.
The expansion and renovation project will more than double the size of the current facility
and they've allowed extra room for storage and a research library.
Past expansion projects haven't worked out so well. So the museum has made the extra adjustments so history doesn't repeat itself.
This new project means a lot to Dawson County, and the museum will be almost a cultural heritage center but also it will mean a lot to visitors.
Which will give the people of Dawson County a new historical site to be proud of.
The new museum will help tell the stories of Dawson County along the way. The museum, located in Lexington, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
They hope to move into their new building soon.
