Draper Faces Life in Prison for Death of Grandson

Peter Draper

A Naponee man has been sentenced to life in prison for the death of his two-year-old grandson.

Peter Draper was sentenced Thursday morning in Franklin County. The 48-year-old man faces life in prison, with eligibility for parole in 54 years.

Draper was convicted in May of intentional child abuse resulting in death, and intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. He was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for the first count and 49 to 50 years in prison for the second. The sentences will run consecutively.

Prosecutors say he was the person responsible for the death of his grandson, Joseph Rinehart Jr. in 2012, who officials say died of multiple blunt force traumas to his body.

Joseph's mother, 25-year-old Laura Rinehart, has been sentenced to 12 to 22 years in prison after pleading no contest to attempted child abuse for her son's death. Draper's wife, Nancy Draper, was sentenced alongside her daughter to 20 to 30 years in prison.
