A North Platte man who spotted a fire underneath a van wasn't able to get it out before the flames spread to a home Saturday, according to fire officials.

They said the van and home at 1424 West 14th Street were heavily damaged.

The three people and dog that were in the duplex were able to get out safely.

The North Platte battalion chief said the other half of the duplex escaped without significant damage.

Officials said there has been some suspicious activity reported and what caused the fire is still being investigated.
