The Egg and I restaurants are being recognized by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation as a state winner for the restaurant neighbor award.
After completing the application process, this restaurant stacks up above all the other food chains in the state. Their community involvement; charities they contribute to; and different fundraisers they participate in, such as Nebraska Food Bank, The Children's Home Society, as well as partnering with St. Jude have made this all possible.
"We are so excited; it's a huge honor to know that we're standing out in the state of Nebraska as far as our contributions to the community go. It's really neat," said Kearney Egg and I general manager Val Glaser.
This is the first time they have been nominated. If they advance on to win the national award, they will receive $5,000 to support a charity of choice or community project. The Egg and I food chain in Nebraska is among several restaurants in the country up for the national award.
"I'm so excited about this award. I hope that we win nationals," said Sonya Tejcka, a waitress at Egg and I.
They're not sure how much competition they're looking at, but Glaser said they have their fingers crossed and will continue to go above and beyond in community service to provide the best service to anyone who walks through the doors.
"I just love to come here; the atmosphere is awesome," said customer Breana Johnson.
"The service is just really awesome and they're so nice and friendly," added customer Taylor Warren.
Aside from the friendly staff and great customer service, guests are just happy to see the restaurant make a difference in the community.
"This is all about being involved in our community and giving to those in need," said Glaser.
Four winners will be selected from the entire country in April. If the restaurant wins the national award, they hope to be able to divide up the money to touch more people with it.
