Updated: Ewing Man Accused of Murder in Mobile Home Fire
A Ewing man has been charged with arson and murder in connection with a mobile home fire near Ewing in northeast Nebraska.
Matthew Hinrichsen, 33, has been charged with arson and two counts of first-degree murder and remains in the Madison County jail without bond. Officers arrested Hinrichsen at his parent's home where he reportedly admitted to his father that he killed two people.
In addition, he was naked when taken into police custody because his clothes had been burned.
The two people killed in the fire have been identified as 25-year-old Victoria Lee, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and 30-year-old Gabino Vargas, of Omaha, according to Antelope County Attorney Joe Abler.
The Nebraska State Patrol said they received a 911 call for a domestic violence dispute. As they were responding, along with local law enforcement, they were informed of a fire being called in only 1 1/2 miles away.
Once on the scene, deputies saw a man who escaped the home and he informed the officers that there might still be two people inside. The man lived in the home and was question by the police. He was released after questioning and was not injured in the fire.
The Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Antelope County Attorney, the Antelope and Holt County Sheriff's Offices and the State Fire Marshal in the investigation.
