      Expecting 6-Week Detour Due to Road Construction in G.I.

      GrandIsland -- The Stuhr Road - Bismark Road to BNSFRailroad Concrete Overlay project is scheduled to begin next week. This projectbegins immediately north of the Bismark Road intersection, and ends north ofthe BNSF Railway crossing.

      OnMonday Stuhr Road will be closed from Bismark Road to the BNSF Railway crossingsouth of Swift Road. Traffic will be detoured one mile east to Shady BendRoad.

      Itis anticipated that Stuhr Road will remain closed for six weeks.

      Workwill consist of removing five-inches of the existing roadway by milling,leaving a base for new pavement. The existing roadway will then be overlaidwith concrete pavement.

      Thepavement will be widened by about four feet and five-foot turf shoulders will alsobe constructed.

      BNSFRailway will perform track maintenance at the railroad crossing during the timeStuhr Road is closed.

      Plansand Specifications for constructing the concrete overlay were developed by Cityof Grand Island Engineering Division staff. The construction contract of$362,960 was awarded to Gehring Construction of Columbus, NE.
