VS is a viral disease that can cause blisters in the mouth, nostrils, and hooves. When blisters break, there is usually salivation, nasal discharge and anorexia. Symptoms usually only last a few days.
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture says the disease usually affects horses, swine, cattle, and sometimes goats and sheep.
Producers are urged to contact the NDA's state veterinarian's office if they're planning to transport livestock into Nebraska to learn about specific import requirements. Officials also advise that producers contact other destination states to learn their latest import requirements.
