Former GI Firefighter Gets Prison for Receiving/Distributing Child Pornography

Mark Fhuere

A former Grand Island firefighter has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for receiving and distributing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 51-year-old Mark Fhuere was sentenced on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Lincoln. Following his release, Fhuere will be required to serve five years of supervised release, and must register as a sex offender.

Fhuere pleaded guilty in February for child pornography found on his computer that was from May 2, 2011 and May 29, 2013. Authorities found more than 3,000 explicit images and videos on his computer during their investigation.

Fhuere resigned from his position as a firefighter-paramedic with the Grand Island Fire Department just prior to turning himself in last summer. He'd worked for the department since 1996.
