Former GI Firefighter Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography
Former Grand Island firefighter Mark Fhuere has entered a guilty plea to federal child pornography charges.
Senior Judge Lyle E. Strom in Lincoln accepted Fhuere's plea and found him guilty. Sentencing is set for May 13.
Fuehre was arrested in Grand Island last summer at the Nebraska State Patrol office, where he turned himself in, following a search of his home computer.
Investigators previously said that troopers searched Fhuere's home computer as part of an ongoing investigation. They found evidence of child pornography on the computer.
Fhuere was initially charged in Hall County, but the case was later moved to the federal court system.
Fhuere is well known for his Christmas light arrangements during the holidays, and helped with a community light display in downtown Grand Island.
He resigned from the Grand Island Fire Department, just prior to turning himself in last summer. Firefighters previously said they were devastated by the allegations.
