Gas Prices Fall Slightly Following Weeks of Increases

Drivers may have finally seen the number go down when stopping to fill up with gas last week. After weeks of increases at the pump, the average gas price in Nebraska fell 2.2 cents per gallon over the last week.

According to GasBuddy, the average price for a gallon of gas in Nebraska fell to $3.59. Likewise, the national average fell 2.7 cents per gallon to $3.65.

"After an impressive run that saw the nationalaverage begin to approach its springtime high, it appears prices haveplateaued- at least for now," said Senior Petroleum AnalystPatrick DeHaan.

DeHaan says the relief may not last however, as the peak of hurricane season is approaching which could affect gas prices if a major storm were to hit the Gulf. Gas prices could also be rising soon due to the decline in crude oil inventories, according to DeHaan.

As of Sunday, average gas prices in Nebraska were 3.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago, and 16.5 cents per gallon higher than this time last month.
