With snow flurries in their face, Grand Island firefighters were on the scene of a garage fire Friday afternoon.
Capt. Ed Carlin says it took minutes to knock down the flames, but crews stayed on scene for about two hours. The detached garage was being used for storage, and firefighters monitored the embers in case it rekindled.
The home is in northeast Grand Island on the 500 block of East 20th Street, just off St. Paul Road. Two nearby homes were not damaged.
Carlin says they won't be sure of the fire's cause until they can look at the scene in the daylight, but believe it was accidental. Four stations responded to the fire.
He says one old car was in the garage, but it was not burned.
