A Grand Island man accused of driving drunk with 100 chickens as passengers has been sentenced to 180 days behind bars and fined $1,000.

Additionally, 36-year-old Luis Motola-Palacio is not allowed to drive for 15 years after pleading no contest to charges of second offense DUI and livestock neglect.

According to Grand Island police, Motola–Palacio had the malnourished chickens in his SUV when he was pulled over on Jan. 31 for not having his headlights on. About half of those chickens were dead.

The sentences are to run at the same time a previous prison sentence for a 2013 assault case. Authorities said he shot another man in the leg during a fight as they were slaughtering pigs in Grand Island last year.
