A Grand Island elementary school was put on alert Monday after a report of a gun was made to Grand Island police.
The report turned out to be a hoax, but police didn't take any chances.
Sgt. Bud Edwards told NTV that they got a report of someone with a gun at Dodge Elementary and were able to determine that there was no gun.
The elementary school is always locked down and visitors must be buzzed in. Even so, they decided to hold kids inside and release them directly to parents at the end of the day for added safety.
The man who made the call was taken to jail.
Parents told NTV the school handled the stressful situation well, and appeared to have prepared for situations like this.
