Gov. Dave Heineman is encouraging Nebraskans to register for theLiveWell Team Challenge. The program runs Jan. 14 through April 8, and offers friendly team competition inweight loss and physical activity minutes.
"Lastyear there were over 9,000 participants from 154 Nebraska companies who lost acombined total of 34,000 pounds, and they logged more than 23 million minutesin total activity time, which averages about 21 minutes a day per participant,"said Gov. Heineman. "Programs like the LiveWell Challenge are helpingNebraskans lead healthier lives. I want to encourage you to form your teams andsign-up today!"
Throughout the 100 days of the Team Challenge, teams of 2-10people receive weekly motivational tips to guide them toward healthiernutrition and exercise habits. The participants periodically log their progressand can check their results on a leaderboard.
"Upon enrollment in the program, each participant receives atraining T-shirt, an annual subscription to a healthy lifestyle magazine andaccess to a wealth of prizes and wellness resources," said Dave Mlnarik,Executive Director of the Nebraska Sports Council.
"We encourage everyone tocheck with their employer first as many companies offer entry fee assistanceand additional company incentives. We also encourage participants to challengefamily, friends and neighbors to join them in pursuit of a healthierlifestyle," added Mlnarik.
Nebraska's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joann Schaefer said,"I'm excited about this 100-day challenge because it is reinforcing the cultureof wellness we are creating across the state, and a little friendly competitioncan really get people moving."
