Grand Island Crews Work to Repair Water Main Break Causing Icy Roads
Grand Island officials hope to have a leaking water main that has caused ice to cover nearby roads repaired by Wednesday afternoon.
Just a few blocks north of the State Fair campus, Oak Street resembles a frozen lake. An eerie fog hangs over the street, as cars attempt to drive through the frigid water.
Utilities Director Tim Luchsinger said a small leak in the water main was reported Tuesday night and by Wednesday morning, the water had spread about three blocks.
Crews had to wade through icy water to begin repairs. Water has been shut off in the neighborhood as they work on the problem.
The city says they hope to have the break repaired Wednesday afternoon. Luchsinger said the first step was to let the water recede, so workers could dig up the main and get it fixed.
