From the city of Grand Island:
The city of Grand Island adopts the International Building and Residential codes to establish minimum requirements for construction of the built environment.With recent severe weather events there has been an increase in reroofing and residing projects. The Building Department reminds homeowners, as well as contractors, a roofing permit is required prior to beginning roofing or siding projects.
Projects requesting permits after the project has been started will be assessed an investigation fee equal to the amount of the actual permit fee in addition to the permit fee which is according to City Code chapter 8 section 54.
Property owners are responsible for keeping property in compliance with the City Code by acquiring permit or assuring the contractor has obtained the proper permit before construction has begun.
Permits may be acquired from the Building Department located upstairs at city hall, 100 E. First St., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Fridays.
