Beginning Monday, June 2, the Grand Island Police Department will tow vehicles that have accumulated two or more overdue unpaid parking tickets.
The department says they currently have a list of 88 vehicles/owners that are in violation of the recently amended ordinance allowing for the impounding of these vehicles.
Owners who have their vehicle towed must pay all unpaid parking tickets, as well as the tow, impound and storage fees. In addition, all fees must be paid at the police department during regular business hours.
Individuals with outstanding tickets must pay the fine to be removed from the list and avoid having their vehicle towed.
* This article was updated to indicate GIPD will NOT be conducting a special operation specifically targeting these vehicles as was originally reported based on information from the department. However, if an officer sees one of these vehicles parked on the street, authorities say they will have it towed and impounded.
