A Grand Island Veteran Affairs employee has earned national recognition recently as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Police 2013 Administrative Support Staff employee of the year for large facilities.

David Anderson, a Doniphan native, is a VA police administrative security assistant for the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, Grand Island.

Anderson has been employed at the Grand Island VA since 2008, where he took part in redesigning the process used for issuing employee identification badges and fingerprint processing.

He also was able to save federal dollars by coordinating advanced training for Grand Island VA police officers at lower costs. That saved over $40,000 in tuition and travel.

Anderson has more than 22 years of prior experience at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and 16 years with the Nebraska State Patrol.
