Grand Island Woman Convicted in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Britteney Baker

A Grand Island woman has pleaded no contest to vehicular homicide for the death of a motorcyclist last June.

Britteney Baker, 22, entered the plea Wednesday in Hall County District Court in exchange for the dismissal of a false reporting charge.

Baker was charged after the June 12 crash that killed 80-year-old Donald McCarville, of Grand Island. Authorities say Baker crossed the center line and struck a motorcycle McCarville was driving head on. McCarville died at the scene.

Baker initially told officers the driver of her car had fled on foot. She later admitted to being the driver.

Prosecutors believe Baker was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Baker is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 19.
