Grants Awarded for Several Nebraska Cities to Help Revitalize Communities


Several cities across Nebraska will be receiving a share of $94,500 from the Community Development Block Grant to help revitalize their communities.

Thecities of Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Norfolk and NorthPlatte submitted applications in November to furtherevaluate the communities' housing and public works activities benefiting low-and moderate-income persons in community neighborhoods.

The evaluated activities began in 2009 with the initial Comprehensive Needs Assessment and Revitalization Strategy. This new evaluation extends the participation in the program for each city for the next three years.

Thefunding, based on what each community needed to update and evaluate its 2009community revitalization strategy, will be allocated as follows (with each citymaking a 25 percent total project matching contribution):

  • Columbus--$12,000
  • Fremont--$12,000
  • GrandIsland--$15,000
  • Hastings--$15,000
  • Kearney--$15,000
  • Norfolk--$10,500
  • NorthPlatte--$15,000

Grants are administered by theNebraska Department of Economic Development from the state's annual allocationof CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
