A local food drive hopes to put a dent in that statistic here in Nebraska.
It's part of CHS Agri Service Center's nearly month-long effort to collect food and funds for area pantries.
Some say this Harvest for Hunger event couldn't have come at a better time.
"The local pantry was actually calling here just recently, needing some donations, that their supplies were very limited," said Gary Faimon, of CHS.
The company hosted a fundraiser lunch in Blue Hill Sunday.
Proceeds from the fourth annual event will go to pantries in south central Nebraska, with CHS adding a bonus contribution.
