Harvest is Underway, Neb. Crop Looking Good so Far


      Harvest season is getting underway andmuch of Nebraska's crops look pretty good so far.

      The latest report from the USDA showed63-percent of Nebraska's corn crop in good or excellent condition.

      However, corn harvest is justfour-percent complete, compared to a 10-percent average. This is well behindthe 34-percent that was finished thistime last year.

      Nebraska's soybean crop is rated 59-percentgood or excellent with about three-percent of that crop harvested.

      In Kansas, a new government reportsays farmers are harvesting corn, seeding wheat and preparing for fall harvest.

      The national agriculture statisticsservice reported that winter wheat planting in Kansas is 13-percent complete.This is about average for the time of year.

      The agency also reported that 16-percentof the Kansas corn crop has now been harvested. Those numbers are far behindthe 62-percent that had been cut by the same time last year.

      Due to dry conditions this year, thecorn crop is rated as 29-percent poor to very poor and only 39-percent good orexcellent.
