A Hastings boy is dead, following what police believe to be an accidental shooting on Friday morning.

Police were sent to 907 N. Saunders around 8:15 a.m. Friday.

The Adams County Attorney's Office says the boy, 4-year-old Beau Pecor, had sustained a gunshot wound from a rifle at his home.

The boy was taken to Mary Lanning Healthcare, and Police Chief Pete Kortum said the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Preliminary reports indicate the shooting was accidental, but officers continue to investigate the incident. Family members were home at the time of the shooting.

An autopsy had been scheduled for Friday afternoon as required by state statute for children under 19 who died suddenly.
