Hastings College Rodeo Named Rodeo of the Year for the Great Plains Region

The first year of the Bobby Gottsch Jr. Memorial Hastings College Rodeo can definitely be considered a success as it has now been named Rodeo of the Year.

The distinction was made by members of the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association for the college's rodeo that took place at the Adams County Fairgrounds on April 26-27.

The region featured 10 rodeos this year, and representatives from 15 competing colleges and universities plus 10 event directors voted on the award following the final rodeo of the season at Dickinson State University May 3-4.

"When the announcement was made, they said we won in a landslide," said Hastings College Rodeo Coach Justen Nokes. He says that this recognition comes thanks to the more than 3,000 fans that attended the event, the event volunteers and sponsors who helped make the rodeo possible.

Nokes said planning is already underway for next year's rodeo. "The feedback we've received from competitors, coaches and those who came to enjoy the rodeo has been overwhelmingly positive, but we're looking to add some things and make it even better," Nokes said.

Dates for next year's rodeo will be announced once the Great Plains Region's schedule is set.
