Hastings Knights of Columbus Host Free Throw Contest

Hoop dreams come to life as a local competition tests kids' shooting skills on the basketball court.

Hastings area youth went to the line on Sunday, at the Knights of Columbus' annual free throw competition.

This event has been going for nearly 20 years, and is designed to bring kids of all levels in to show off their skills, while learning sportsmanship and knowledge of key fundamentals of shooting.

Organizers say they are impressed by the talent.

"We have a couple kids that I recognize the names. They won last year at council competition, and also went to districts and won there, so we did have a pretty stacked deck today," said event chairman Todd Cerney. "There was a lot of good participants and we had a couple kids had to break a tie and had to shoot 15 free throws then shoot another 15 to break the tie, so that's always interesting for the kids."

Winners of each age division will advance to districts February 2 in Sutton.
